SAP Network Services

DOT Compliance

Federal department of Transportation (DOT) regulations require an evaluation by a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) before an employee can return to a safety sensitive job when drug testing is positive for drugs and/or alcohol. The evaluation is required to determine the nature and extent of a person’s alcohol and/or substance use and to assist them in obtaining treatment if necessary. SAP Network provides fully compliant DOT substance abuse assessment and referral services. For existing clients we will contact you immediately and can perform the evaluation within two days of the time you notify us of the positive screen. I am a “certified” Substance Abuse Professional and all my services are fully complaint with CFR.46 of the Department of Transportation regulations.

How do I refer an employee?

You can contact me through www.sapnetworkandtraining.com, or call me directly at 508-208-9145 for consultation or to make an appointment.

What are the advantages for SAP Network clients?

One free SAP evaluation, One free required training for supervisors or safety sensitive employees or A review of their existing DOT Testing policies and immediate response to requests for services instead of “as available” service.

Routine updates and guidance regarding DOT changes, requirements and FMCSA Clearing House filings.

This coordination of services saves you and your employee’s time and anxiety about how to proceed effectively. I have over 35 years’ experience as a SAP. Many of my client companies have been audited by the DOT and have been found to be in full cooperation with these mandatory federal requirements.

What is the fee?

The fee is $500.00 for each SAP assessment. This includes the assessment, referral to treatment/education, case management, follow up evaluation all with the goal of keeping the company and the client in compliance with DOT standards. The client is responsible for any cost for treatment/education.

All post-rehabilitation assessments are included. Payment is due at the time of service and may be paid by the company or the client.

What if further treatment is recommended?

The DOT requires that all individuals failing or refusing a required drug or alcohol test MUST receive treatment or education. It is the SAP’s responsibility to determine the level of care or education required, find a provider and monitor participation. The employee is responsible for any costs associated with this treatment/education.

In order to return to Safety Sensitive responsibilities the employee must: satisfactorily complete the recommended treatment/education, have an exit evaluation with the SAP and the SAP sends a “compliance letter” to the employer. In the case of FMCSA employees, log in to the Clearing House website and complete the website information on lien.

An employee who fails or refuses a DOT test may continue in “NON SAFETY SENSITIVE” employment at the employer’s discretion.
